Broken Bat Pierces Colvin, Sent To Hospital
Another good day for the Cubs dominating the Marlins, but a bad day for Tyler Colvin. He was sent to the hospital after a piece of broken bat impaled his upper chest during Sunday's game against the Marlins.
Colvin was at third base ready to score when Welington Castillo hit a double to send Tyler home. Castillo's bat broke and a piece of it went flying down to third. After being struck by the broken bat, Colvin was sent to the Ryder Trauma Unit of Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami for x-rays and to have the wound treated.
The wound was mere inches from Colvin's heart and there was no word about the depth of the broken bat when Colvin left the game, but there was little external bleeding. He will remain over night at the hospital and there is a chance he may be out for the remainder of the season.
