Woman Sexually Assaulted In Home Invasion During Mass At Nearby Church; 'Really Disgusting And Evil'
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman was beaten and sexually assaulted in her home Sunday in Brighton Park, just steps from a church during morning mass.
Police said the man entered a 24-year-old woman's home near 43rd and Richmond sometime between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. Sunday, as mass was letting out at Five Holy Martyrs Church across the street.
Once inside, he hit and choked the woman, causing her to lose consciousness. After she blacked out, the man sexually assaulted her.
The victim was taken to the hospital, where she was treated for multiple bruises and contusions on her neck, face, forehead and lip. She was recovering at home Monday morning, but too frightened and distraught to talk about her ordeal.
Her boyfriend called the rapist a "disgusting human being. That's all I can say, is just really disgusting and evil."
He said his girlfriend thought her attacker was trying to kill her.
"She felt very threatened. She thought her life was going to end, and was just hoping it didn't came to that point, because there is a lot of crazy people out here," he said. "We're just hoping that a lot of people wake up, and realize that there is evil."
Investigators had only a vague description of the rapist, who was dressed in all black, including a shirt with "security" printed on the front.
Police asked anyone who might have seen anything suspicious to call 911. They also advised people who live in the area to walk in pairs or groups, and be aware of their surroundings.
