Briggs Looks Toward Victory Over Green Bay

CHICAGO (WSCR) -- As the Bears gear up for their historic NFC Championship Game with the Green Bay Packers, linebacker Lance Briggs is talking about how the team can come out victorious and move on to the Super Bowl.

Speaking to Laurence Holmes on The Score 670-AM, Briggs says to slow down Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, sticking with the same strategies the Bears used during the regular season is the key.

"The things that we have done during the season have helped us to be a better team; to be a better defense; to be the squad that we are, and you don't go away from those things, you know, you take it up another notch," he said. "That's what you do."

While the Bears may be focused on perfecting their strategy, they are hardly immune to the excitement that is sweeping over the city, Briggs said.

"I think the most exciting thing is just thinking about the game and things that are going to happen; you know, not getting a lot of sleep, which I think a lot of people around the city aren't getting a lot of sleep; getting a lot of messages from everybody," Briggs said. "I think that's the best part."

So what about the prospects of going to the Super Bowl? Briggs has been there before, with the Bears in the 2006-2007 season, and he says he has been preparing fellow members of his team who might be playing in the Big Game for the first time.

"Being in past Super Bowls, you know, being a veteran of the Super Bowl, you kind of think about it. You know, you kind of tell some of the younger guys – the guys you haven't been there – you know, what it's like, and that week off, and flying down to Dallas, what some of it would be; how you'd be received, how the city's going to go crazy," he said.

And the often-bitter rivalry between Bears and Packers fans notwithstanding, Briggs said there is something to be said for the fact that two NFC North Division teams are playing the championship game.

"I also think it's a compliment to the North Division," Briggs said. "For a lot of years, the North Division has taken a big hit on being a weaker division. So now you have an opportunity to have two teams from the same division that earned the championship from the North Division, so I think it says a lot about how tough we actually are."
