Brief Return Of Snow Could Make For Messy Afternoon Commute
CHICAGO (CBS) -- As if scattered showers, blustery winds, and temperatures seesawing from the upper 70s to the low 40s through the weekend weren't enough to keep Chicagoans on their toes the past few days, Old Man Winter likely will rear his ugly head again Monday afternoon.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros reports a cold front has swept into the Chicago area, sending temperatures in Chicago plunging from around 60 degrees at 4 a.m. to around 40 by 6 a.m.
On top of that, scattered showers across the area could turn into snowfall by the afternoon, as temperatures are expected to continue dropping into the 30s.
Luckily, because the ground temperature has warmed up significantly, there should be only minor accumulations, if any, and whatever does stick on the ground won't stay there long.
Still, the snow could reduce visibility for the afternoon commute, and slushy accumulations are possible on the roads.
Temperatures should stay in the 30s on Tuesday, with a high of 39 in Chicago, before returning to the 50s on Wednesday.
