Brenly: Rizzo Provides 'A Reason For Optimism In The Future'

(WSCR) If you're looking for a reason to watch the 26-49 Cubs, look no further than Anthony Rizzo.

Next to Starlin Castro, Rizzo is one of the only players who matters in this current Cubs' roster. His development is instrumental to the future of the entire organization.

"The way this season has gone, there have been very few highlights, very few reasons to look forward to the next day's game," Cubs TV color analyst Bob Brenly told The Mully and Hanley Show. "But Anthony Rizzo is a very intriguing guy. We've heard a lot about him. We've seen the numbers - some of us had a chance to see him down in the Cactus League this spring. Now, he's here in the big leagues giving everybody some reason for optimism for the future."

Rizzo has only played in two games for the Cubs, and the left-handed first baseman is 3-for-8 with an RBI.

"I think it's kind of an on-going process," Brenly said. "You see him initially in spring training and in the early part of camp, I wasn't so sure. His swing was a little long, looked like he had some holes, especially on the inside part of the plate. But as Cactus League play went on, he started to close that hole and started to get to some of those inside fastballs. Then, you see him again in June after not seeing him since spring training and his swing is completely different. He's lowered his hands, he's standing more upright. His swing his much quicker."
