Breast-Cancer Fundraiser Emphasizes Out-Of-Pocket Expenses
(CBS) -- The Busted Foundation started in Los Angeles in 2007.
Now, it's bringing its mission to Chicago at a special event at Slugger's in Wrigleyville this Sunday.
The first annual "Batting for Boobies" will be held at Slugger's on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
"This is one of the few breast cancer charities that actually focus on supplying direct financial aid to women. Women can apply for a grant and we will give them money for things that they need, other than their treatment," event organizer Aimee Allegretti says.
"The money can go to child care, mammogram screenings, hospital co-pays and deductible and any sort of living expenses that they need help paying for," Allegretti says.
She says that what's makes the event so unique.
"Our money goes directly to women in our Chicagoland area. We're trying to bridge the gap between the insurance costs and out-of-pocket expenses."
Allegretti hopes to raise $10,000 dollars and make it an annual event for Chicago breast cancer survivors and their families.
The event includes entertainment, a silent auction and a batting contest.

Busted Foundation's programs include an educational website and financial grants to eligible women dealing with breast cancer.
