Woman, Chihuahua Attacked By Three Pit Bulls
(CBS) – Three pit bulls mauled an elderly woman and her Chihuahua Friday evening in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, a witness told CBS 2. The owner's pet was killed.
A woman in her sixties was walking her dog in the 8700 block of South Cregier Avenue when the three other dogs attacked the animal, Chicago police said. The pet owner was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, police said; the Chicago Fire Department listed her age as 64.
A second woman, identified by police as the owner of the three other dogs, was listed in stable condition at Advocate Trinity Hospital. Fire officials say she is 23.
Witness D'Angelo Wilborn says the elderly woman was walking her Chihuahua in the alley when the three pit bulls next door to him became agitated and struck.
He says the woman's leg was missing skin from knee to ankle. Authorities say the woman's dog was killed.
Chicago's animal control department seized the three animals who were blamed in the attack. The owner was expected to be cited in the incident, police said.
