Penn State Cancels Paterno Press Conference
(CBS) Penn State abruptly canceled Joe Paterno's regularly scheduled Tuesday press conference just 40 minutes before it was about to start.
A statement handed to media waiting for the press conference to start said: "Due to the on-going legal circumstance centered around the recent allegations and charges, we have determined that today's press conference cannot be held and will not be re-scheduled."
After announcing Monday that the head coach's weekly press conference would go on as scheduled, reporters from all over the country flocked to Happy Valley to hear Paterno respond to the exploding child sex scandal that has hit Penn State's football program.
But less than an hour before it was about to start, Penn State Sports Information Director Jeff Nelson announced the press conference had been canceled and said it would not be rescheduled. The school has no further comment.
