The former U.S. senator says her call to replace Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis isn't personal. But she says the department's morale among rank and file officers is at an all-time low.
She says the department should look at adding more officers, but acknowledges there isn't money to do so currently.
She also proposes a "Silver Alert" for senior citizens modeled after the "Amber Alert" program for children that go missing. Other states have such programs.
Braun delivered her plan Wednesday during a news conference.
More than a dozen candidates are on the Feb. 22 ballot to replace retiring Mayor Richard M. Daley.
