Brady: No Exceptions In Anti-Tax Pledge
CHICAGO (AP) - Republican Bill Brady says he can't imagine any circumstances where he would raise taxes if he's elected Illinois governor.
In an interview Thursday with The Associated Press, he said the only new revenues in a Brady administration would come from economic growth -- no tax or fee increases, period.
Brady insists he's not creating a ``read my lips'' moment like the first President George Bush, who wound up breaking a promise not to raise taxes.
Brady maintains he won't change his mind, although Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn predicts he will.
Brady continues to duck questions about spending cuts.
He wouldn't take a firm position on cutting children's health services that grew under former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, and he couldn't name any sacrifices the people of Illinois will have to make.
