Stevens Says No To Illinois
ATLANTA (CBS) -- Butler's Brad Stevens will not be taking over as Illini basketball coach.
Multiple published reports said Sunday evening that Stevens will remain at Butler.
"I am happy and extremely grateful to be the head coach at Butler University, and I am already looking forward to next season and the start of our postseason workouts in April," Butler was quoted in a statement published by CBS Sports and several other soruces.
CBS Sports reports the Illini reached out to Stevens via Parker Executive Search, and that he quickly said he was not interested in replacing Bruce Weber. Virginia Commonwealth University Coach Shaka Smart likewise said he was not interested last week.
CBS Sports says Ohio's John Groce is the next most obvious candidate.
