Boys Basketball Coach Charged With Sexual Abuse
CRETE, Ill. (STMW) -- Crete-Monee High School boys basketball coach Matt Ryndak was charged Wednesday with aggravated criminal sexual abuse for allegedly fondling a teenage boy four times in 2010.
Ryndak, 30, of Dyer, Ind., surrendered about 3 p.m. at the Crete Police Department after an arrest warrant was issued earlier Wednesday. The warrant carried a $100,000 bail.
Ryndak, who worked at the school as a physical education teacher, was named the SouthtownStar's 2011 boys basketball coach of the year after leading the Warriors to a 25-4 mark and a super sectional birth. He joined Rocky Hill's staff at Crete-Monee as an assistant in 2009 before taking over the top job for the 2010-11 season.
Ryndak did not return multiple calls to his cell phone seeking comment. He was put on paid leave earlier this month after the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services began investigating him. He is set to appear in court Thursday at the Will County courthouse.
