Boy Struck By SUV While Playing Basketball In South Shore
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 10-year-old boy was seriously injured Wednesday night, when he was struck by an SUV while he was playing basketball in the South Shore neighborhood.
Police believe it was no accident when the SUV drove onto the basketball court at Rosenblum Park around 5:30 p.m., after first driving through an adjacent soccer field.
Sources said an 18-year-old man got into a fight with someone, and intentionally drove onto the basketball court, hitting the 10-year-old boy.
The boy's mother told the Chicago Tribune he was out of surgery at Comer Children's Hospital on Thursday morning, after getting 20 stitches inside his mouth. She said he also suffered fractures, but is expected to recover. He was in serious but stable condition Thursday morning.
The 18-year-old driver was being questioned by detectives, and charges were pending.
