Boy Injured In Crystal Lake Sledding Accident
CRYSTAL LAKE (CBS) -- Kids flock to the hills with sleds when the snow falls, but in Crystal Lake a 10-year-old boy had to head to the hospital.
James Day is in a wheelchair, with a serious warning.
On Feb. 13, he was sledding on a hill in Crystal Lake when his sled veered off the center of the hill and into a fence. The fence has broken pieces of wood and exposed coils of wire. It also has metal posts.
James hit one of the posts, and he broke two bones.
"It worries me, because if this happened to my leg –- my bone popped out -– then what would happen to them if they went head first?" James told CBS 2's Kristyn Hartman.
His mother, Andrea Aguilera, says precautions should be taken to avoid similar accidents in the future.
A sign warns sledders of potential dangers. A official declined comment on the accident until the park district completes an investigation.
