Boy Hit In Head With Gun During Robbery Attempt
OAK PARK, Ill. (STMW) - An Oak Park boy was chased and hit in the head with a gun during a robbery attempt Wednesday night in the west suburb.
It happened at 8:34 p.m. in the 500 block of North Kenilworth Avenue, Oak Park Det. Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds said.
The boy was approached by two men near Holmes School. The men, described as in their late teens, initiated a conversation with the boy.
"They indicated they intended to rob him," Reynolds said.
He said the boy resisted and broke away, but the two chased him down and struck him on the back of the head with a gun, causing a laceration. The boy then ran away again, Reynolds said.
"When he turned back to look at them, one of them (fired a shot) in his direction," Reynolds said. He added the victim is cooperating and that police "definitely have several leads to follow."
Reynolds said police are also still investigating an armed robbery the previous night in which an Oak Park man in his back yard on the 800 block of South Euclid Avenue was battered and robbed by two teenagers.
Police say one of the teens displayed a handgun and demanded the victim's money at 5:33 p.m. Nov. 30. The second thief then punched the man in the head and reached into his pockets and removed $12 cash.
It is not known whether the two armed robberies are connected.
