Van Driver At O'Hare Ticketed For Striking Boy, 4
(CBS) -- The driver of a hotel van has been ticketed for striking a four-year-old boy Saturday afternoon on the arrivals level of O'Hare International Airport.
The boy's injuries are said not to be life-threatening.
The van driver, whom police refused to identify, was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
Police and fire officials said that the accident occurred shortly after 2 p.m., on the lower level of Terminal 1 and involved a van whose driver was under contract to the Chicago Marriott O'Hare Hotel.
A police spokesperson said the boy was crossing with his parents when struck. The driver reportedly told police he saw the parents, but not the boy, as he turned.
Paramedics transported the child to Lutheran General Hospital.
Hotel General Manager Maz Ismail issued a statement acknowledging that the van was the hotel's and said that a third-party vendor, Go Airport Express, hires the drivers. He said the hotel is "looking into the matter."
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the minor child and his family and hopes for a speedy recovery," he said.
