CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 4-year-old boy died after he was ejected from a car in a crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway Sunday afternoon.
Four children and two adults were in a Ford Expedition in the northbound lanes of the expressway near 8th Street about 4:20 p.m. when the driver lost control and the vehicle veered to the right and hit the guardrail, Illinois State Police said.
Franklin Leon Jackson, Jr., 4, was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to Comer Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:25 p.m., according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
The vehicle's other occupants - a man, woman and three other children - all declined medical treatment after the crash, state police said.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation Monday morning, state police added.
