Boy, 3, Wounded In Woodlawn Shooting
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A three-year-old boy was seriously wounded when he was shot while riding in a in the Woodlawn neighborhood Sunday evening.
Devon Quinn was riding in a car in the 6100 block of South Kimbark Avenue around 6:15 p.m., when a gunman drove up and started shooting.
Police said at least one bullet hit the boy.
The toddler was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Monday morning. Doctors treated him for a gunshot wound to the shoulder. The bullet traveled to his stomach.
Crisis responder Andrew Holmes said the shooting is an insult, because the child was an unintended target.
"Think before you put your hands on that weapon and discharge that weapon. That's not a career. It's not a toy. If you want to settle some differences, sit down and talk like men," he said.
Holmes said he hopes members of the community turn in the shooter.
"When you shoot, and you hit a child, it should be so much outrage over there, the person that discharged that weapon should be in custody as of now," he said.
Devon's mother said he's expected to be okay.
No one was in custody Monday morning. Area Central detectives were investigating.
