Boy, 17, Killed In Jefferson Park Shooting
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed Thursday night in the Jefferson Park neighborhood.
Police said the teen was with someone else in an alley in the 5300 block of West Foster Avenue around 9 p.m., when a dark-colored sedan drove up, and someone inside fired shots.
The 17-year-old was shot in the stomach. He was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ride, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as Alvin Stoll, who lived about half a mile away.
Stoll's mother was too distraught to talk Friday morning.
Neighbors in the normally quiet Jefferson Park neighborhood were stunned that a teenager with seemingly his whole life to live was gunned down.
One woman who asked to remain anonymous said her children have known Stoll for at least seven years.
"It broke my heart. My daughter started crying, my son who's 11 started crying, because they grew up with this boy," she said. "My daughter played with him from probably 5th grade up until freshman year. They were all good friends. He was a … seemed to be a nice kid; always happy, always smiling. That's just unbelievable. … I had literally seen him five minutes before, just walking."
The woman said she believes she heard the shot that killed Stoll, but she was on the phone at the time and believed it was a car backfiring.
No one was in custody Friday morning. Area North detectives were investigating.
