Boy, 16, Critically Injured In Chicago Ridge Road Rage Incident
(STMW) -- A 16-year-old boy suffered severe head trauma in a Friday night road rage altercation in southwest suburban Chicago Ridge.
About 9 p.m., people in two vehicles got into an altercation near the intersection of 99th Street and Ridgeland Avenue, according to Chicago Ridge police.
The vehicles continued south until a second fight started near 106th and Ridgeland, where the teen got out of one of the cars with a baseball bat, striking the other vehicle and its driver, police said.
The driver tried to end the altercation by driving to 107th Street and Harlem Avenue, police said.
The vehicle with the 16-year-old followed and he got out once again, this time getting on top of the other car and striking it repeatedly with the bat, police said.
The driver continued driving once again, this time with the teen on the hood of the car. They continued several blocks east to the 10600 block of Southwest Highway, where the boy was ejected from the top of the car, police said.
He struck his head on the pavement and was taken to a hospital, where he remained in critical condition Saturday night.
Preliminary investigation found the driver was acting in self defense, police said. No charges were pending Saturday as detectives investigate.
