Boy, 12, Arrested After Bringing Grenade To School
NORTH AURORA, Ill. (CBS) -- A 12-year-old boy is in serious trouble for bringing a grenade to the school he attends in North Aurora.
As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, the boy, who lives in North Aurora, was cited as a juvenile delinquent Tuesday morning with bringing the hand grenade into Jewel Middle School.

Officials at the school, at 1501 Waterford Dr. in North Aurora, were shocked upon finding out that the boy had the hand grenade in his book bag. It turned out to be a dud, but the Kane County Bomb Squad did not know that upon arriving at the school.
The bomb squad carried the hand grenade outside until it was a safe distance away from the school building.
The district has had other incidents of look-alike weapons brought to school, even though parents and students are told not to at the beginning of the year, West Aurora School District spokesman Mike Chapin told the Aurora Beacon-News.
The student who brought the grenade will face discipline from the school as well as disorderly conduct charges, Chapin said.
"The discipline is pretty strong," he said.
Parents of Jewel Middle School students were notified of the incident by school officials, Chapin said.
School officials also thanked the students who informed their teachers.
"They did the right thing," Chapin said.
The boy was taken to the North Aurora Police station, and will be referred to Kane County Juvenile Court Services.
