Boy, 11, In Coma After Being Hit By Car On I-57
CHICAGO (STMW) -- An 11-year-old boy suffered major head injuries and was in a coma after being hit by a car Sunday afternoon on I-57 in the Far South Side Washington Heights neighborhood, according to Illinois State Police.
A northbound car struck the boy near 103rd Street when he stepped into a lane as he walked along the expressway with some friends about 2:23 p.m., said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Robert Satkiewicz.
The driver of the car tried avoiding the boy, Satkiewicz said, and she remained at the scene after the accident.
Paramedics took the boy to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition, Fire Media Affairs said.
Further details were not immediately available.
