Bowman: 'We're Aggressively Trying To Improve The Team'
By Adam Hoge -
As Monday's 2 p.m. trade deadline nears, Blackhawks General Manager Stan Bowman said he's starting to lose his voice after all the time he has spent on the phone.
"I don't think you have to make a trade before the deadline, but I think in our case we would like to try and get a little more depth," Bowman said on the eve of the deadline.
Much of the talk around the Hawks involves adding a center or defenseman and Bowman did not silence those rumors when asked about them.
"It's unlikely you are going to get both of those, but we're working on both fronts because you don't know which one is going to come in your lap in the end to do," he said.
Both Bowman and head coach Joel Quenneville said they are happy with the team now, but they would love to make improvements if possible. It's obvious Bowman is trying hard to make that happen.
"We're aggressively trying to improve the team," he said.
Seabrook's Bright Future
It was a long process, but the Blackhawks finally got defenseman Brent Seabrook locked up longterm.
On the same day the team reached a 5-year, $29 million extension with Seabrook, Bowman revealed that talks with their star defenseman have been on-going since the beginning of the season. And now that it's over, Bowman could not be more excited for Seabrook's future with the team.
"I'm not even sure he's reached his potential yet," Bowman said. "His best years, he's probably coming right into those now. And that factored into it."
