Bowen: Plenty Of WRs Available For Bears
(WSCR) Could the Bears wide receiver struggles end this offseason?
While the team's plan remains to be seen, one NFL expert thinks head coach Lovie Smith is ready to bring in a physical, No. 1 wide receiver.
"He wants some big wide receivers," Matt Bowen of the National Football Post and Chicago Tribune told The McNeil and Spiegel Show. "He wants someone that Jay can throw the ball to on third and 5. 'Hey, let's run a slant route. Let's run something basic.' You gotta have someone to do that - have someone in the red zone that can run a fade route. When is the last time they ran a fade route in Chicago to a big guy in the red zone? It was supposed to be Roy (Williams) last year, and that didn't work out.

Both the free agent and draft classes are deep in wide receiver -- something that could greatly benefit the Bears.
"You brought up Vincent Jackson, (Marques) Colston from the Saints could be out there," Bowen said. "Then, you look at the rookies. You have Michael Floyd from Notre Dame. Then, you get later in the draft. You got guys like Brian Quick from Appalachian State or Marvin McNutt from Iowa, Stephen Hill from Georgia Tech. They're all big, physical wide receivers. These aren't burners, not the 4.5, 4.6 (40-yard dash) guys. I think Lovie is trying to get to where he can give his quarterback some options on third downs and start moving the sticks."
