Bowen: Another New Coordinator Could Mean Trouble For Cutler
(WSCR) It's safe to say Jay Cutler's seven seasons in the NFL haven't been the smoothest.
Entering the 2012 season, Cutler will have played under four different offensive coordinators in his seven seasons. Mike Tice, who was recently promoted to offensive coordinator after Mike Martz was fired, may be headed to Oakland as their head coach -- something that could cause a headache for the 28-year-old quarterback.
"Jay would probably start shaking his head," Matt Bowen of the National Football Post and Chicago Tribune told The Mully and Hanley Show. "That would mean another new coach, another new playbook, new terminology. It's real nice when you come back and you have the same coordinator to go into that offseason program. When you walk into that first meeting before OTAs or minicamps, you just feel comfortable because you know what's going to be put on the chalk board."

Bowen said that even though Tice would be a new coordinator, he would likely operate under a similar playbook to Martz.
"Even with coach Tice not being coach Martz, there's still going to be a lot of familiarity there with the terms and the concepts, how they line up, how they run practice," Bowen said. "That's a nice feeling to have as a player -- you know what to expect. But if coach Tice leaves, Jay is going to have to come in and understand, 'I'm going to have to be at the facility for a long time, again, because I have to learn a whole new playbook.'"
