Boomer Esiason To Jets: Cut Tim Tebow
(WSCR) Tebow Mania has reached New York, and not everyone is thrilled about it.
Count former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason among those who thinks the Tim Tebow-Jets experiment is a bad idea.
"I'm just telling you right now, I would (cut him), and I'll tell you why I would," Esiason said alongside "Boomer & Carton" radio partner Craig Carton for WFAN in New York. "It's not in any way, shape or form — I think — benefiting this team."
The Jets acquired Tebow from the Broncos this offseason for a fourth- and sixth-round draft pick. During Saturday's Jets scrimmage game, Tebow was just 1-for-4. He ran three times for 14 yards and had two fumbled quarterback-center exchanges.
"All you have to do is watch him throw the ball," said Esiason. "Just watch him.
"I just think this whole thing — at least from my perspective right now in relation to who Mark Sanchez is, your starting quarterback — is a major mistake.
"You can say whatever you want about Tim Tebow," said Esiason. "He played some of the worst football that any quarterback has ever played in the history of the game last year at times."
