Bond Reduced For Man Who Posted Picture Of Daughter Bound With Tape
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Bond has been reduced for the Chicago man who made national headlines when he posted a picture on Facebook of his toddler daughter bound with tape .
A judge on Friday afternoon set bond at $30,000 for Andre Curry, significantly less than the $100,000 bond on which he had been held since late last year. Several hours later, Currey walked out of the Cook County Jail.
The most serious charge Curry, 21, faces is aggravated battery, which carries a maximum sentence of 7 years.
A handful of Andre Curry's family, friends and supporters were in the courtroom. They had long contended the original bond was too high and unfair.
"He didn't do anything to harm this child. She was never hurt, never in danger. He just made a mistake," Brandi Phillips, Andre Curry's mother, told reporters.
Curry previously was barred from having contact with his daughter. As part of the bond reduction Friday, he also cannot have contact with the girl's mother, and he is obligated to cooperate with investigators from the state's child-welfare agency.
The baby's mother, Yesmin Doss, says she doesn't believe Curry poses a threat to their child.
The Englewood man first drew the attention of authorities last year, when he posted a picture of his small daughter bound and gagged with tape with the message, "This is wut happens wen my baby hits me back. ; )."
The posting elicited angry comments from Internet users and prompted a police investigation. Prosecutors say Curry used duct tape to restrain the girl. Curry's attorney says it was painter's tape.
