Bond Raised For Teacher Accused Of Molesting 4 Girls
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (CBS) -- Bond was increased to $250,000 on Friday for a Round Lake Beach elementary school teacher accused of molesting four girls, after prosecutors told a Lake County judge there could be more victims.
Manuel Reyes, 55, of Kenosha, Wis., is charged with six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Prosecutors told the judge Friday that he allegedly molested four young female students at Raymond Ellis Elementary School in Round Lake Beach, where he teaches third grade.
Lake County Judge Raymond Collins raised Reyes' bond from $100,000 to $250,000 after prosecutors said they expect there could be additional victims.
Reyes, a third-grade teacher at Ellis, is accused of inappropriately touching four girls between Aug. 18, 2010 and March 23, 2011.
The girls were 9 and 10 years old, a law enforcement source said.
Police and Round Lake Unit School District 116 officials will not say where the alleged assaults took place. School District 116 officials sent letters home and made telephone calls alerting parents of the news.
Reyes is accused of abusing the girls between August and late March at the school, where he teaches third grade.
He has taught at the school for six years, officials have said.
Reyes was arrested Saturday at his home in Kenosha and he waived extradition earlier this week and was brought to Lake County to face the charges. If convicted, each count could result in a maximum five-year prison term.
