Bombarded Voters Ready For Tuesday To End
CHICAGO (CBS) -- There seems to be an epidemic of campaign fatigue in the U.S. electorate, with people who are simply tired of all the political speeches and attack ads.
CBS 2's Mike Parker reports.
The legendary Manny's Deli on the Near South Side has a little presidential straw poll going. They're selling GOP cookies with elephants crafted in frosting and Democrat cookies with frosted donkeys.
"The donkeys are selling better in this area -- definitely, Democratic country over here," owner Ken Raskin says.
But Obama supporters and Romney backers at Manny's are united about one thing: They're out of patience with all the politicking.
"Unfortunately, the desperation seems to be showing," says Bob Barkei. "It's been kind of a down and dirty. We'll be happy when it's over tomorrow.
The constant barrage of negative campaign ads on TV is driving everyone a little crazy, it seems.
"The ads and the rhetoric I think is amped up. It's hard to believe either side," James Knepper says.
Another voter at Manny's believes the country is ready for the campaign to end.
"So we can move ahead," says Theodore Jackson.
How is Deborah Tyson handling all the election noise?
"It's handling us. Headaches, backaches, can't sleep, insomnia," she complains.
