Bomb Threat Prompts Response To Morris Theater
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Emergency crews are on the scene of a possible bomb threat at a far southwest suburban movie theater.
Police, fire and ambulance vehicles were staged outside the Orpheum Theater in Morris, which is part of the Carmike chain, based in Columbus, Ga.
Morris is located about 20 miles southwest of Joliet.
The threat was actually called into Carmike's corporate headquarters around 9:30 a.m. The caller stated that bombs had been placed in theaters.
"We have received a bomb threat that specifically stated that a Carmike Theater had a bomb in it," Harvey Van Cleave, assistant chief for Morris Police Department, said in a statement to the Morris Daily Herald. "The caller called corporate headquarters in Georgia and basically told them they had placed bombs in their theaters."
Cook County Bomb Squad K-9 units were on scene by 10:40 a.m.
Carmike also owns Illinois theaters in: Bloomington, Champaign, Decatur, DeKalb, Forsyth, Macomb, Peru and Sterling.
