Bolingbrook Police Shoot Man Who Hit Cop With Metal Pole
BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (STMW) -- A police officer shot a man who allegedly struck another officer with a metal pole Wednesday morning.
Levan Davis, 21, was listed in critical condition in intensive care at a local hospital Wednesday afternoon after being shot twice, while an officer was being treated at another hospital for a "severe head wound," according to Bolingbrook police Lt. Mike Rompa. Police did not identify the hospitals, the Joliet Herald-News is reporting.
He said police responded about 9:15 a.m. to a home in the 300 block of Walnut Circle in Romeoville, where Davis' father said his son had tried to attack him and that he believed his son was "off his medication and had possibly just smoked marijuana."
Davis then attacked the officers, striking one in the head with a metal pole he had removed from a fence and trying to hit another officer with the pole when the officer shot him, Rompa said.
The officer who shot Davis was released from a hospital after being examined. Rompa said the investigation is ongoing, and no charges had been filed as of Wednesday afternoon.
