Body Of Local Colorado Movie Massacre Victim Returned To Chicago Area

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (CBS) -- One of the 12 people killed in the Colorado movie massacre last Friday is being brought home to the Chicago area for his funeral and burial.

As WBBM Newsradio's Regine Schlesinger reports, John Larimer, 27, a U.S. Navy intelligence officer, was from Crystal Lake. He and his girlfriend, Julia Vojtsek, had been dating about a month when they went to see the midnight showing of the new Batman film "The Dark Knight Rises" last week at the Century 16 Cinema in Aurora, Colo.

Vojtsek told WBBM Newsradio's Steve Miller last weekend that Larimer shielded her and saved her life.

"Once the shooting began, he just held my head and protected my whole body with his," she said.

Vojtsek, a nurse, was not wounded when the alleged gunman 24-year-old James Holmes, opened fire on the crowd.

Twelve people died from their injuries and 59 others were wounded.

Larimer's wake will be open to the public from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. this coming Friday, at the Davenport Funeral Home, at 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. in Crystal Lake.

The funeral and burial will be private.
