Body In River Turns Out To Be Dead Cat In Coffin
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Fire crews rushed to the North Branch of the Chicago River near Division Street Friday, after someone reported there was a body in the water.
There was indeed a body in the water. But the body was in a coffin, and it belonged to a cat.
About 10:50 a.m., fire crews responded to the river near Division and Halsted streets in response to a report of a body in the water.
Fire personnel, according to a dispatch report, reported that "if it's a body, it's a recovery," meaning the body in the water was not alive.
Fire Media Affairs reported the object found in the water was a small coffin with a dead house cat inside.
It was likely the result of a send-off water burial for a deceased pet, according to Fire Media.
