Body In Des Plaines River Was Missing Rolling Meadows Woman
RIVER GROVE, Ill. (CBS) -- Authorities say a body pulled from the Des Plaines River last week is that of a Rolling Meadows woman who had been reported missing in March.
The body of Alicja Kaminska, 55, of the 5200 block of Carriage Way Drive in Rolling Meadows, was pulled from the river, in River Grove, on April 28. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office
Police were called to the scene after a passenger on a westbound Metra train reported seeing something in the water, Illinois State Police District Chicago Trooper Clare Pfotenhauer said.
River Grove police Chief Roger Loni said at the time that the deceased woman was wearing blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt – and that she may have been in the water for weeks.
The body had become entangled in both tree branches and debris due to the water current, Pfotenhauer said. Divers from the River Grove Fire Department were able to pull the body out.
River Grove Police Sgt. Jack Glowinski said Friday morning Kaminska was reported missing from Rolling Meadows in March. He said the missing persons alert described her as potentially suicidal and said her car was found very close to the river.
Glowinski said he believes the river current brought the body to the River Grove area. "It got caught up in some debris and stopped here," he said.
