WILMETTE, Ill. (CBS) -- Police are conducting a homicide investigation after the body of a 20-year-old north suburban man was discovered by a dog walker near the Edens Expressway on Monday evening.
About 8:30 p.m., a dog walker called police to report finding a body in the brush on the east side of Frontage Road, just south of the intersection of Old Glenview and Briar Road in Wilmeete, a statement from Wilmette police said.
The body showed "signs of obvious trauma," according to police. Fingerprints were used to identify the victim as Colin Nutter, 20, of 939 Harvard Ct. in Highland Park, police said.
Investigators have also declared the Highland Park home a crime scene.
Neighbors told CBS 2's Suzanne LeMignot that there was a break-in at the home about two weeks ago.
"A window that was broken, in their basement and that was all I knew about it and I was recently talking with his mom, she was walking her dog, just a couple of days ago, they're lovely people," said neighbor Sarah Weissman.
An official at the cook County Medical Examiner's office confirmed signs of trauma to the body, but said a preliminary cause of death has yet to be determined. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
The body was discovered just south of Old Glenview Road along an expressway frontage road in Wilmette, according to police.
Police are investigating Nutter's death as a murder, with help from the North Regional Major Crimes Task Force. Anyone with information should call the task force tip line at (847) 853-7580, or Wilmette police at (847) 256-1200.
