Body Found In Flotsam Pile In Des Plaines River

RIVER GROVE, Ill. (CBS) -- The body of a woman has been pulled from the Des Plaines River in River Grove, police say.

River Grove Police Chief Roger Loni says the body was found near the railroad bridge between Grand and Belmont.

He says the call came in about 11:30 a.m.

"We received a call from the Metra police department that a passenger on one of the passing Metra trains observed what she thought was a body in the river, as she was crossing over the bridge just before River Road on the Metra tracks," Loni said.

Earlier, state police had said it was the body of a man. They later said they weren't sure.

Loni says it was the body of a white female - and that she was wearing blue jeans and a grey sweatshirt - and that she may have been in the water for weeks.

Metra says its trains had been stopped for awhile - while authorities were getting the body out of the Des Plaines River - but now those trains are running again.

River Grove village officials have been concerned lately about flooding on the Des Plaines due to several days of rain.

CBS 2's Kris Habermehl contributed to this report.
