CTA Blue Line Service Resumes After Derailment Caused By Train Hitting Tire On Tracks
CHICAGO (CBS)-- Blue Line service resumed Wednesday morning, after trains were halted between Rosemont and Jefferson Park for nearly three hours, when a train derailed after hitting a tire on the tracks.
Service was suspended around 5:15 a.m., after CTA officials said a southbound Blue Line train derailed near Harlem after striking a vehicle tire that was on the tracks. Officials said one front wheel of the train was slightly off the tracks.
The tire apparently flew over the wall that separates the Blue Line tracks from the Kennedy Expressway.
CTA officials said there were 48 passengers on the train at the time of the incident, but no injuries were reported. Four passengers were taken to local hospital to be checked.
Service resumed shortly before 8 a.m., according to the CTA.
