Police: Woman Dead After Hit By CTA Blue Line Train
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A woman was killed after being struck by a Blue Line train Friday afternoon on the Near West Side, temporarily shutting power in both directions.
A person was struck at the Chicago Blue Line station about 4:40 p.m., according to CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski. Power was turned off in both directions and a bus shuttle was put in place between the Damen and LaSalle stations, she said.
By about 5:30 p.m., northbound trains were on the move, bypassing the Chicago stop. Southbound trains still remain stopped, Hosinski said.
Fire Media Affairs spokesman Kevin MacGregor said the person was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious to critical condition. But police, citing preliminary information, said the woman in her 40s was dead at the scene.
It's unclear whether the woman jumped or fell onto the southbound tracks, police said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office had not been notified of a death as of 5:30 p.m.
