Blue Line Delayed After Reports Of Smoke
CHICAGO (CBS) -- CTA Blue Line trains just west of downtown were momentarily delayed Tuesday morning as fire crews checked out reports of smoke in the subway.
The incident happened about 8:20 a.m. on the 500 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, according to dispatch reports. A CTA rider alert said there were minor delays on the Blue Line because of the Fire Department activity.
An Emergency Medcial Services Plan 1 -- which automatically sends five ambulances -- and a still-and-box alarm response were called after smoke was reported in the subway.
Power was cut off to the tracks in that area for a few minutes as fire department personnel investigated but by about 8:30 a.m. the EMS plan and the still-and-box alarm were struck out and secured, according to dispatch reports.
There apparently was some type of smoky smell in the subway but no actual smoke and no fire.
By 8:45 a.m., the CTA reported normal service on the Blue Line.
