Blizzard Destroys Factory Roof In Griffith, Ind.
GRIFFITH, Ind. (STMW) -- Heavy snow caused portions of a factory's roof to collapse early Wednesday in Griffith, Ind.
The collapse occurred at the LaSalle Steel Co. around 12:19 a.m., and no one was injured in the incident, said Griffith Fire Department Chief George Thiel.
"They are going to have to take part of (the roof) off and put new trusses on," Thiel said.
Thiel said the weather didn't hinder work at the scene at 1045 E. Main St. because the Fire Department didn't have to use water.
Before the collapse, company officials had contacted the Griffith Police Department to ask for the water main to be turned off because the roof was sagging. Officials were concerned the overhead sprinkler system would burst and flood the company.
A representative from the company at 1045 E. Main St., couldn't be reached as of Wednesday morning.
