Blizzard Aftermath To Affect Lake Levels, Farms
CHICAGO (WBBM) -- Snow from this month's blizzard is slowly leaving us, but the snow may impact us for the next several months.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Bernie Tafoya reports, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says there might be a springtime spike in levels on Lake Michigan because of the snow from the Blizzard of 2011, but nothing long-term.

"Individual storms – even if you're dumping a couple feet of snow on the ground – aren't really going to show a measurable impact on Great Lakes water levels," said Joel Brammeier of the Great Lakes Alliance.
The blizzard will impact farmers this year. John Hawkins of the Illinois Farm Bureau says there will now be plenty of subsoil moisture for corn and soybeans to take root.
But cattle ranchers might not be happy, because conditions will be muddier, which is breeding grounds for cattle getting sick.
