Early Morning Rain Moves Along; Sunshine To Come Eventually
UPDATED 03/30/12 12:15 p.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The blast of rain that soaked the Chicago area Friday morning has gone on its way, but a chilly and dreary day persists.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros reports the temperatures in most places were more or less average for this time of year as of 11:20 a.m. – 51 degrees at O'Hare International Airport, and 50 at Midway. But the temperatures were far colder to the north than to the south – it was only 41 in Waukegan, and 63 in Kankakee.
A rapid and heavy rain storm hit the area around 7 a.m. With the high winds, umbrellas were as good as useless, and socks were left soaked. By 8:30 a.m., the much of the rain had moved on to the east, but skies remained overcast.
Glaros says the sun will come out before the end of the day, and temperatures will climb to the mid-60s south of the Chicago area. But the official forecast high is only 58 degrees.
The high climbs to 61 on Saturday, 73 on Sunday, and 76 on Monday, before dropping back to 55 on Tuesday and 56 on Wednesday.
And if you think the day is dreary and cold, you'll think differently if you so much as hop in a boat across Lake Michigan. The storms from earlier in the morning had found their way to the Detroit area by the 11 a.m. hour, and in central and northern Michigan, they were producing snow.
