Blackhawks Trade Brouwer, Campbell In Draft Day Deals
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Blackhawks pulled off two major trades--involving defenseman Brian Campbell and winger Troy Brouwer--in a night of dealing during the NHL draft.
In exhange for Campbell, the Hawks acquired forward Rostislav Olesz from the Florida Panthers.
Olesz, 25, was originally selected by Florida with seventh overall pick in the 2004 National Hockey League Entry Draft, and made his NHL debut the following year. Over parts of six NHL seasons he has posted 57 goals, 75 assists and 112 penalty minutes.
Chicago used their first draft pick to select center Mark McNeill, a power forward who played last season for Prince Albert of the Western Hockey League.
The Blackhawks selected McNeill 18th overall Friday night with their scheduled first-round selection.
Minutes later, Chicago traded restricted free-agent Brouwer to Washington for the 26th pick, then took Phillip Danault from Victoriaville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
McNeill is a 6-foot-2, 204-pound Edmonton, Alberta, native. He had 32 goals and 49 assists with Prince Albert last season. Danault had 67 points with 44 assists last season.
Brouwer had 17 goals and 19 assists in 79 games for the Blackhawks in 2010-11.
