Blackhawks' Success Goes Beyond This Season

Last season couldn't have gone better for the Chicago Blackhawks. However, their run at a title defense hasn't been as good as many expected.

But it's important to realize that this team's success can last beyond a few seasons.

Not since the 1997 and 1998 has a team won the Stanley Cup in consecutive seasons, it might be the hardest team accomplishment in all of sports. Part of the reason it's so difficult has to do with the physical toll it takes on the players. The other part is a result of teams getting split up in the post-lockout era of the NHL. The reason the Blackhawks have had a rough season so far is likely a combination of both of these factors.

"You're not going to win the Stanley Cup every year," Tim Sassone, of the Daily Herald, said on the Mully and Hanley Show.

Any fan who expected a dynasty similar to the Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls, at this point, has given up on those hopes. And for the most part those were unrealistic hopes for an NHL team working with a salary cap.

"I mean if you win two or three or four [Stanley Cups] with these guys in their careers, over the span of their 15-year [or] 16-year career, I think that's a pretty significant accomplishment."
