Blackhawks Start First Training Camp At Notre Dame
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (CBS) -- To the victors go the spoils. And a short off-season. The quest for another Stanley Cup has begun for the Blackhawks on Notre Dame's campus in South Bend. As CBS 2's Jill Carlson reports, it's a quick turnaround for the champs.
A mere 81 days after leaving the TD Garden in Boston as Stanley Cup Champions, the Blackhawks are back on the ice in South Bend.
"When someone asks how your offseason was, the simple answer is – it was short and sweet because that's the way it was and the way you want it to be," says winger Patrick Kane.
This is the first time the Blackhawks have held training camp outside of Chicago. It's a chance to do some bonding, and build team chemistry, before they even make their first road trip.
"We have a lot of young here, too. (We'll) get to know them. We went to check out the stadium yesterday. Lots of history. It was pretty cool," adds goaltender Corey Crawford.
"It's different, but it's interesting. It's something new for the guys from Europe, like myself, to see. To tell you the truth, something like this I only saw in the movies. I never went to college so being here is pretty cool," says winger Marian Hossa.
The Blackhawks get to enjoy their destination training camp here at the University of Notre dame through Sunday. Then its back home to Chicago and their first preseason game Tuesday against the Red Wings.
