Blackhawks Split Weekend Games
A potentially huge weekend for the Chicago Blackhawks, turned in to just a good weekend. The Blackhawks knocked off the rival Detroit Red Wings on Saturday but fell to the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.
The well rested Blackhawks were hoping to get more than two points out of their weekend games. But the two points they did get were still important. After a nice five day break from action, the rest of the NHL finally caught up to the Blackhawks in terms of games played. And now the playoff picture becomes a little clearer.
With 56 points on the season, the Blackhawks sit in the seventh position in the Western Conference with 33 games left to be played.
The win over the Red Wings pushed the Blackhawks ahead of the San Jose Sharks, but a win on Sunday would have given them a tie for fifth place with the Anaheim Ducks.
The Blackhawks were held to one goal in their game agaisnt the Flyers, goalie Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 30 of the 31 shots he faced. And the Blackhawks admit that they should have been more aggressive throughout the game.
"I think we were a little too easy on their entire team," Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said. "[Bobrovsky] is a good goaltender, no doubt about it, but he's not unbeatable."
The Blackhawks had the opportunities throughout the whole game. But they couldn't capitalize on their good puck possession.
"He's not one of those guys that you're worried about," Toews said. "If you give any goaltender in this league enough time and space to see everything, well they're going to make a lot of stops out there."
