Blackhawks' Smith No Stranger To Playoff Spotlight
CHICAGO (CBS) In his very young NHL career, just 12 games to be exact, the Chicago Blackhawks' Ben Smith has already made a lasting impression, and mainly because of his overtime goal against the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night.
But postseason heroics are nothing new for Smith, he's just doing it on a bigger stage than ever before.
In four years at Boston College, the Avon, Connecticut native played in 27 playoff games and recorded 33 points (16 goals and 17 assists), and was named to the NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament Team in 2008 and 2010.
While leading the B.C. Eagles to a National Championship in 2010, Smith was named the Frozen Four's Most Outstanding Player.
During his senior season, Smith ranked 7th in the nation in game-winning goals with five, and had 12 game-winners in his college career.
With three goals in the playoffs, two coming in Chicago's Game 2 loss, Smith has been a nice surprise for the Blackhawks and their fans.
