Blackhawks Sign Enforcer Carcillo
CHICAGO (CBS) Blackhawks fans are certainly familiar with Dan Carcillo, who wasn't afraid to mix it up in the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers.
Now Carcillo will be calling Chicago home as the forward signed a one-year deal with the Blackhawks Friday.
"It all happened within a couple hours and Chicago was one of the teams we were talking to," Carcillo said. "It really worked out on both ends and I'm really excited to be a Blackhawk."
Carcillo played in 57 games with the Flyers during the 2010-11 season, recording two goals and four assists to go along with 127 penalty minutes. He's always been labeled as an enforcer and has led the NHL in penalty minutes before.
"It's a tough line to walk and you don't want to hurt the team when you are playing like that," Carcillo said.
The forward became the fifth player signed by the Blackhawks Friday, joining forwards Andrew Brunette, Jamal Mayers and Brett McLean along with defenseman Sean O'Donnell. All four of them signed one-year deals.
"We had a very successful day," Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said. "I'm very pleased the way it all played out. It was our objective to bring in some players who play a certain style and have experience. I think we found a good mixture."
Bowman's next task will be to sign the team's remaining restricted free agents, which include Michael Frolik, Chris Campoli and Viktor Stalberg.
"I'm confident," Bowman said in regards to re-signing the restricted free agents. "Now that we've accomplished what we wanted to (with the unrestricted free agents), we want to work on those restricted free agents and I'm confident we will get them signed."
