Blackhawks Sign Emery To 1-Year Deal, Send Salak To Rockford
(CBS) The Blackhawks have made a decision on their backup goaltender.
The team and goaltender Ray Emery agreed to a one-year deal Monday, while Alexander Salak was assigned to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.
Emery and Salak had been battling for the backup goaltender job behind Corey Crawford.
"We're in the fortunate position to have to make a difficult decision on two netminders that impressed throughout our entire training camp," general manager Stan Bowman said in a statement. "Having both Ray Emery and Alexander Salak as a part of the Chicago Blackhawks organization makes us stronger in both the short-term and long-term."
Emery, 29, is has played in 173 career regular-season games over parts of seven seasons with the Ottawa Senators, Philadelphia Flyers and Anaheim Ducks.
The Blackhawks' training camp roster now stands at 26 active players, which includes 16 forwards, 8 defensemen, and two goaltenders. An updated training camp roster is attached.
Salak, 24, was acquired by the Blackhawks, along with forward Michael Frolik, in a trade with the Florida Panthers on February 9.
