Blackhawks Sign Crawford To Three-Year Contract
CHICAGO (CBS) The Chicago Blackhawks have signed goalie Corey Crawford to a three-year contract, the team announced on Thursday.
In 57 regular season games, Crawford had a 33-18-6 record with a .917 save percentage and a 2.30 goals against average. His 33 wins were the most by a Blackhawks goalie since 2001, and a total that has not been exceeded since Ed Belfour won 37 games in the 1993-94 season.
Crawford's most impressive stretch during the regular season came from January 7-12, when he compiled a 176:09 shutout streak. The longest such streak since Tony Esposito in 1972. He also stopped 16-of-19 shootout attempts, including all eight he saw at the United Center.
The signing will create some stability in goal for the Blackhawks, who have seen have five goalies in net over the last three seasons.
Crawford was the Blackhawks' second pick (52nd overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He was a restricted free agent.
